Who is Luma?

Luma is the upstart start-up mobile data provider giving you waaaaaaaayyy more data! We believe that everyone should have access to affordable mobile data. Luma Data (Pty) Ltd operates in partnership with established, licensed telecommunications providers that are championing communication and connectivity in South Africa.

What is LTE data?

LTE, or Long Term Evolution, is the 4th generation (4G) of mobile technology and provides a high-speed mobile data experience. Telkom has its own LTE network, but also roams on other networks where it doesn't have LTE coverage.

What are 'Telkom network' LTE data bundles

Telkom calls data bundles which only work on its own LTE network 'Telkom network' or 'On-net' LTE data bundles. They are much cheaper than 'All network' or 'All-net' bundles which work on both Telkom's network and roaming partners' networks. Access to the 'Telkom network' LTE data service is coverage dependent. Check your coverage here.

Do I need to switch to Telkom's 'LTE Prepaid' tariff?

Yes, your SIM card should be on Telkom's 'LTE Prepaid' tariff, ready to access these unbeatable 'Telkom network' LTE data deals. If it isn't, it's easy to change to the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff using Telkom's USSD menu. Simply dial *180#, press # to scroll for more options, select 'Tariff change', select 'Change current tariff', select 'LTE Prepaid', select 'Confirm'. Click here for more info.

Is it more expensive to call and SMS on the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff?

The great news is you can still make and receive calls, and send SMSs on the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff, even though it is built for LTE data consumption! But the out-of-bundle call rate is more expensive for prepaid SIM cards at R2.50 per minute (for post-paid SIM cards, it is as cheap as other tariffs at R0.70 per minute). Out-of-bundle SMSs are charged at R0.50 each. Pricing is subject to change at Telkom's discretion. Check out the full "LTE Prepaid" T&Cs here.

What will happen if I am not on the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff?

When processing a bundle for you, if Luma finds that you are not on the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff, you will receive a message notifying you that you are on the incorrect tariff. It will also include a link to a voucher so you can claim your bundle when you have changed your tariff. Please note that any purchases made on the incorrect tariff cannot be refunded, nor substituted.

Do I get anytime data and night surfer data?

We've focused on bringing you an unbeatable rate on anytime data. So, for now, these incredible bundles don't come with additional night surfer data.

How do I check my data balance?

The same way you normally do, dial *100# or *188# and wait for the SMS from Telkom. The USSD response will only show your airtime balance, but the SMS will have your data balance.

When will my data bundle expire?

We have a lot of data in stock and will make sure your bundle has a minimum of 30 days validity. Bundles cannot be rolled over beyond the expiry date.

What is a Flash 1Voucher, where do I get one, and how do I pay with it?

1Voucher is a prepaid payment voucher from Flash that converts cash into a digital currency in the form of a 16-digit PIN number. You can use a 1Voucher PIN to pay for your Luma data bundles safely and easily, by selecting it as the payment option when you checkout. If your voucher is worth more than the bundle you're paying for, we will send you your change as another 1Voucher via SMS. You can then use the change for more data bundles at Luma or other products and services at over 100 Flash partner brands. You can buy a 1Voucher for any value, as and when you like, at any Flash merchant like your local spaza shop or tuck shop, or at a Flash retail partner like Shoprite, Checkers, USave, PEP and more. Can I pay with a bank card or instant EFT?

Credit card and debit card purchases can be made online by selecting card payment at checkout. Payment is processed via PayGate. As part of DPO South Africa, PayGate's secure online payment service is trusted by the best! Instant EFT and other payment options are coming soon. If you have a different payment option in mind, please let us know via WhatsApp on +27 10 030 0900.

Why can't I pay using my Telkom airtime balance right now?

Are these deals available for both prepaid and contract customers?

These deals offer the best value in the market for prepaid LTE data bundles under R30. They are available for both prepaid and hybrid/top-up contract Telkom customers. If you are a standard Telkom contract customer (unable to top-up), just grab a Telkom prepaid SIM on the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff to get waaaaaaaayyyy more LTE data for your hard-earned cash. Please note that any purchases made by standard contract (non-hybrid/non-top-up) Telkom subscribers cannot be fulfilled, nor refunded.

What about customers on other mobile networks?

These deals are available for Telkom prepaid and hybrid/top-up contract Telkom subscribers. If you're on another network, you'll need to pick up a Telkom prepaid SIM on the 'LTE Prepaid' tariff to get the best value in the market for prepaid LTE data bundles under R30. Please note that any purchases made by subscribers on other networks cannot be fulfilled, nor refunded.
